Have you ever wanted to be a world class musician? Ever wanted to preform in front of a large audience for others to hear you natural born talent. Maybe you should try orchestra. Orchestra is where people play challenging songs and work on parts and notes they don’t get or understand. “Orchestra is hard work,” Dr. Pruitt said, the teacher of orchestra. “But, I love it when my student’s hard work pays off with a great performance!” When they are not doing that, they attempt to play songs all the way through often stoping to work with the different sections.
It takes about 2 to 3 months of preparation leading up to a concert and about and hour and a half to prepare right before one. “I thinks it’s fun because I get to play challenging music and it sounds great one concert time,” says Rebecca Shumpert. Orchestra gives kids the chance to learn instruments that they always wanted to play. Some kids also loves the sound that the instrument makes, or they just love trying out different styles. “I wanted to play the violin because it’s such a beautiful sound,” says Abigayle Murphy, a violinist in WKHS orchestra. “I wanted to play it because I thought it would be fun and I was right, it was.”
The orchestra has concert festivals where they preform in front of a bunch of judges. They can give either Superior, Excellent, good, fair, or poor. The last time the orchestra preformed, they got Superior. There is also a concert coming up in October 27 where they will play Halloween themed music. It will be in the theater admission is free. The concert will be held here at the little theater at 7:00 pm.
