Congratulations to White Knoll Cross Country Runners Brawnwyn Koellner and John Clemens for advancing to the first-ever 5A State Meet on November 5th. Both runners qualified as individuals at the Mid-State Qualifier on October 29th at Sandhills. Clemens finished 6th overall with a time of 16:42, and Koellner’s time of 21:06, which tied her personal best, was good for 22nd place. This will be Koellner’s first trip to the state meet, while Clemens will be making his third consecutive appearance. While neither the Boys’ nor Girls’ teams qualified for the state meet, both teams were able to achieve milestones at the MSQ. The Girls’ average time of 23:26 was the fastest for the WKHS Girls at the MSQ since 2010, and the Boys’ average time of 18:07 was, according to available records, the fastest ever for the WKHS Boys. Both teams exceeded expectations by finishing higher than they were seeded based upon previous race times this season.Runners of the Week were Grace Robinette and Kris Covington. Grace, a freshman, ran a new personal best time of 24:23 in her final race of the season, and Kris concluded his high school cross country career with a huge personal best of 18:33. Covington crossed the line as the number four runner for the team.
