From SC to NY
White Knoll students and track stars, LJ Gray and Alan Alvarez traveled to the Armory in New York City on March 9-11 and competed in the New Balance National indoor track meet. Both sprinters qualified for nationals late 2017, early 2018 going to multiple indoor track meets, setting and breaking multiple school records in the process.
Both sprinters had great showings in New York and made names for themselves in their respective events. Gray participated in the emerging elite group of the 60 meter hurdles, while Alvarez participated in the emerging elite 200 meter race and the 60 meter championship group. Gray placed 11th out of 30 of the best hurdlers across the nation. Alvarez placed 3rd in the 200 and placed 38th out of 60 in the 60 meter champions race. “Going to New Balance Nationals was just a great all around experience. I got a chance to compete against the best of the best and it really elevated my game!” Says Alvarez.
The Next Step
LJ Gray and Alan Alvarez both performed very well in New York on one of the grandest stages of them all. White Knoll and the community are proud of their accomplishments and performances. This provides great momentum for both of them and White Knoll as they now transition into the outdoor track season and look to improve on last years 9 athletes going to state.
